Ingredients

  • butter or margarine: 250 gr.
  • petite beurre tea biscuits: 300 gr.
  • cooking chocolate: 200 gr. broken into smaller pieces
  • eggs: 3 yolks
  • hazelnuts roasted: 120 gr. coarsely chopped
  • cocoa powder: 2 tbs
  • cognac: ¼ cup
  • For the garnish
  • powdered sugar: 4 tbs.

Directions

  1. Cut the butter into small pieces. In a double boiler melt the chocolate with the butter, mixing with a wooden spoon until you get a smooth cream. Add the cocoa powder, cognac and the egg yolks and stir.

  2. Break the biscuits into small pieces. Add them to the chocolate mixture and then add the hazelnuts . Mix well and allow it to cool. As soon as it has cooled, spread on greaseproof paper which you have previously sprinkled with powdered sugar. The mixture should be shaped into a cylinder. Wrap it tightly and put in the freezer for 24 hours.

  3. To serve, allow the log to sit at room temperature for 15 minutes and then unwrap and cut into 1 cm slices. 
     

Tips

Chocolate logs, popularly called “salami”, were the ultimate treat for children of older generations. Even if you have no memories of it, it is worth trying and serving to friends.
